The estuary is closed with water backing up behind the beach berm. At high tide there is likely to be wave-driven overwashing of seawater into the closed estuary - bringing with it salt as well as fish and crustacean larvae from the sea . Note: The bridge in the centre of the photo is blamed for constricting flows into the estuary - but it is evident that this does not occur under these closed conditions..
