The breach

At last the water begins to flow. Very slowly at first. At this stage the beach profile had been surveyed using a DGPS. Also the profile of the groundwater in the excavated trench had been surveyed before the breach. With the beach berm dimensions, the gradient of the groundwater surface and the sand grain characteristics it is possible to estimate rate of groundwater flow through the beach berm to the sea.
