The environmental science education programme (ESEP) is implemented through inter-actions with SAEON science engagement officers, scientists and technicians. SAEON Nodes provide unique opportunities for long-term ecological research. The integration of research into the education outreach activities contributes to an improved understanding of long-term and large scale ecological processes for learners and educators.
Programme implementation
Work with selected schools in the vicinity of four of our nodes:
- Arid Lands Node in Kimberley
- Egagasini Node in Cape Town
- Elwandle Node in Port Elizabeth
- Ndlovu Node in Phalaborwa
Engage with educators and learners (grades 9, 10 and 11) to:
- provide educator support (in the form of workshops and materials) to improve the quality of science teaching
- advance learner’s scientific skills to inspire learners to choose careers in environmental sciences through science camps, workshops and SAEON Kids Competition.
