The Grasslands-Forests-Wetlands Node
The Grasslands-Forests-Wetlands node is one of six nodes within the South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON). Our role is to conduct in situ monitoring to detect human induced global change and understand mechanisms and processes allied to these changes for grasslands, wetlands and forests within South Africa. The intention is that this information will provide insight that will improve our understanding of anthropogenic forcing and what this means for society.
The GFW node is hosted by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife.
We are developing in situ long term observation platforms in the Cathedral Peak research catchments of the Maloti Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, building on historic datasets associated with these sites.
